Cupid's Chokehold

Cupid's Chokehold

It has been quite some time since I spoke and saw you last, the Crystal Avenue readers. How have you all been? Hopefully, you all are happy, well, and healthy!

Who remembers the song “Cupid’s Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes back in circa 2005? The lyrics “Ba ba da da (x5), take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got (ba ba da da), not much of a girlfriend, I never seem to get a lot (ba ba da da, ba ba da da),” always hooked itself into my neurons when I see anything in relation to Valentine's Day, and would constantly repeat the same lines like a broken record player. Thus when I went to Cupid’s Span in San Francisco a few weeks ago with Andrew, I knew I had to title the lookbook after Cupid's Chokehold.

My favorite lyrics in “Cupid’s Chokehold” are “I know I'm young but if I had to choose her or the sun, I'd be one nocturnal son of a gun.” As I like to interpret and analyze song lyrics, I chose the following lyrics because the idea of being interested in someone is frivolous. We easily get caught up in the moment and our emotions when there is an instant connection. With sparks flying, it is so easy to misconstrue the difference of liking someone and being infatuated with them. It is hard to be practical, but we’re only young and in the moment once, right?

And so for today’s lookbook, “Cupid’s Chokehold,” I went for a plain white tee to pair with my Dailylook’s Twisted High Low skirt in gray, which was hand picked by my stylist, Adrienne, at Dailylook. For my accessories, I chose my Anne Klein watch, mini silver hoop earrings from Forever 21, and my black strappy heels that were also from Dailylook. When I was putting “Cupid’s Chokehold,” together, I felt the look did not need to be paired with a dressy top or graphic tee as I wanted to keep the look simple and clean. I also wanted the skirt to be the focal point, as the twisted high low skirt and gives a hint of a flirtatious vibe. Overall, the look is perfect to wander around in the city in before the Fall season arrives. Speaking of the city, San Francisco is for sure growing on me. I wish the housing market wasn't increasing daily, because I would love to move to San Francisco!

In closing, I’ll be sure to create at least one Fall look with Dailylook’s Twisted High Low Skirt and happy September everyone! Take care, have a good Labor day weekend and I will see you again soon. Be sure to follow me on my other social media outlets in the meantime for additional outfits of the day and what day to day shenanigans I am up to.
